Impact of AI

Will AI replace humans? If so, by what margin?

With all the hype around AI going on, there are articles from pretty much every POV you can imagine. So which ones are the important ones?

To answer that question, I have analyzed the fundamental question of this article: “Which industries did AI have the largest impact on?” Whether this is about improving an industry or replacing humans in the industry, I focused on the industries that AI shook the most.

Before we begin, it is paramount that we understand that AI refers to intelligence – or in other words, a system capable of learning and improving without additional human aid (at least to some extent).

AI does not mean a code. AI does not mean a calculator. There are countless articles that contribute the work of human coding to that of AI. Let’s go over one of them right now.

Manufacturing

Here’s the perfect example of someone talking about what AI is not. A factory is not any form of AI. The factory does the same thing repeatedly without any improvement or change. There is no intelligence involved.

The factory claims to produce one smartphone per second. And while this may sound impressive, the problem with smartphones is selling them, not making them. Regardless, this process of creating one smartphone per second has little to do with AI.

The people that claim AI is taking over manufacturing actually mean to say that machines are taking over manufacturing.

It would be AI taking over if the AI was improving certain aspects of the implementation, but there is no AI that is anywhere near this level of sophistication.

Customer Service

Now that we understand what AI is not, let’s talk about what it is.

HubSpot’s revealed that 91% of customer relationship managers say AI has improved their customer service response times and 71% plan to increase AI investment.

Unlike repeatedly placing and cutting metal on top of each other with precision, customer service requires more flexible responses depending on the needs of the person asking. It also requires dealing with angry customers on a regular basis as well as availability.

This is where AI shines. Even though it cannot solve most of the complex issues, it can at least save time by directing the customer to the right representative while simultaneously engaging them to reduce boredom.

Customer service industry is one that has been drastically affected by AI.

Music

The music industry is one that is in between manufacturing and customer service industries regarding AI.

While it is not as heavily affected as the customer service industry, it is not left untouched either.

There are websites like Suno that offer assistance in creating music.

While this may not completely replace humans, it definitely raises the bar for humans if they wish to compete with AI in offering assistance.

First show the real changes by showing studies

Then show the rumours like health care and show how there is little evidence because you can’t just replace pharmacists or doctors with AI.
